Dsciplr
This is strong content—organised under clearer theological headings that align with the Dsciplr framework.
Conviction One
We are formed by the God who has made Himself known
Dsciplr affirms as part of the wider body of Christ, the core historic universal creeds, the Apostles and Nicene Creeds.
We believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is totally loving and completely holy. (Gen 1:1; Deut 6:4; Ps 86:9-10; Is 43:10-11; Matt 28.19, Mark 12:29; John 1:1-3)
We affirm, with the global Church, the historic creeds—the Apostles' Creed and Nicene Creed—as faithful summaries of this revealed truth.
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
— Matthew 28:19 (NIV)
Implication:
We are not self-formed—we are shaped by knowing and responding to the Triune God.
Conviction Two
We are formed by the Word of God
We believe that the Bible is God's Word. It is accurate, authoritative and applicable to our everyday lives. (Matt 5:17-18; 24:35; John 4:39; 2 Tim 3:16-17; 2 Pet 1:19-21)
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness."
— 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (NIV)
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."
— Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
"The word of God is alive and active… it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
— Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)
Implication:
We don't just read Scripture—we are discipled by it.
Conviction Three
We are formed through recognising our need for God
Sin, being all that is contrary to the law, will and character of God has corrupted all of creation (Rom 8:19-21). It has separated each of us from God and His design for our lives. We are born with a corrupted nature and entirely unable to save ourselves outside of the work of Christ through the Spirit. (Gen 1:26-31; 3:1-7; Rom 3:23; 6:23; Rom 5:12-21; Rom 8:18-25)
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
— Romans 3:23 (NIV)
Implication:
Discipleship begins with humility—we cannot form ourselves apart from God.
Conviction Four
We are formed through repentance, faith and new life
We believe that in order to receive forgiveness and the 'new birth' we must repent of our sins, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and submit to His will for our lives (Rom 10:9–11).
Jesus' death and resurrection is genuinely offered to all people (John 3:14–16; Titus 2:11; 3:5-7; 1 Peter 1:23; 1 John 5:1). He lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross for the whole world's sin (1 John 2:2), and rose again to prove His victory and empower us. (1 John 2:2; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21; Galatians 1:4; Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:14; Hebrews 9:25-26; 1 Peter 1:19-20)
"If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart… you will be saved."
— Romans 10:9 (NIV)
Implication:
Salvation is not just a moment—it is the beginning of a transformed life under Jesus' Lordship.
Conviction Five
We are formed together, not alone
We believe that the church acts as the body of Christ (1 Cor 12:27) on earth, and is the dwelling place for the Spirit of God (Eph 2:21–22), set apart and called to fulfill Jesus' great command (Matt 22:36–40) and great commission (Matt 28:18–20).
Each believer, born of the Spirit (John 3:3;6), is an important part of the community (1 Cor 12) and is called to use their gifts in service of the mission of God. (Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:22; Hebrews 12:23). Each believer is expected to be an active part of the local community (Heb 10:25) in submission to the Eldership (Heb 13:17). The Church is charged with discipleship (Matt 28:18–20) and discipline (1 Cor 5).
"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship…"
— Acts 2:42 (NIV)
Implication:
Disciples are not formed in isolation—community is essential to growth and accountability.
Conviction Six
We are formed and empowered by the Holy Spirit
We believe in Baptism (full immersion) in water upon belief, confession and identification with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This baptism is in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as an act of obedience. (Matt 28:19; Romans 6:3-7; Acts 2:17, 33, 38; 10:45-48; Hebrews 9:19-22; 10:22; 12:24; 1 Peter 1:2; Mark 1:10; Acts 8:38)
"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses."
— Acts 1:8 (NIV)
Implication:
Discipleship is not sustained by effort alone—it is empowered by the Spirit.
Conviction Seven
We are formed with eternity and God's Kingdom in view
We believe we are all created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. The place of eternal separation is called hell. Heaven is a place of eternal life with God (Matthew 25:46; 13:49-50; Luke 12:47-48; Romans 6:23; 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9; Revelation 20:11-15).
"Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
— Matthew 6:10 (NIV)
Implication:
Disciples live now in light of eternity, aligning their lives with God's Kingdom and purposes.
